2011 Chevrolet Equinox |
The Chevrolet Equinox is the first crossover SUV from Chevrolet, marketed by GM as a compact SUV. Riding on GM's Theta platform, the unibody Equinox is mechanically similar to the GMC Terrain, Saturn Vue, Pontiac Torrent, and the 2007 Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Saturn. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. The Equinox is not designed for serious off-roading like the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
The Chevrolet Equinox a fuel-saving 6-speed automatic transmission and a 2.4L ECOTEC 4-cylinder engine with direct injection means up to 600 highway miles between fill-ups. The 2.4L engine also features an ECO button that allows you to switch to a fuel-saving mode, which can increase your vehicle's fuel economy when compared to normal operation.

The new 2011 Chevrolet Equinox comes equipped with a 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder Ecotec engine delivering 182 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 172 pound-feet of torque at 4,900 rpm. That's about as much horsepower as the previous generation's 3.4-liter V6, though torque is down from the 210 lb-ft that engine offered. As a trade-off, fuel economy will rise considerably. The entry-level mill promises to deliver an EPA rating of 30 mpg on the highway and 21 in the city.
